Foundation Repair;  "Frozen Concrete"

Are you aware that "frozen concrete" can damage your foundation?  Can one repair frozen concrete?

Frozen concrete is not a dessert, but it can happen to your foundation or sidewalk when the air and ground temperature are too cold for the concrete to cure properly.  Also, it can happen when there isn't any protective covering to help the concrete cure after it has been poured.

How can you tell if your foundation suffers from "frozen concrete"?  Is there a way to repair frozen concrete?

On a recent job in Elgin, IL sections of concrete fell off the foundation wall.  See first image below. The second image shows that the concrete has been primed and steel barbs installed to prepare the area for repair.  All the loose material had to be removed with a light picking tool.  Then a hardener was added, and other steps taken to assure a professional repair.  Finally the area was patched as shown in the third image below.

This technique works to repair frozen concrete for either a foundation or a flat surface, such as a sidewalk.
